The NIDDM is a manifestation of various changes like various illness, toxic load, faulty life style and higher levels of mental & emotional stress.
A lot of people who develop type II diabetes inherit it as a tendency from their parents however, many do not manifest it. The following unhealthy lifestyle practices act as a trigger:
- Eating too much food at irregular times,
- Eating large amounts of foods with a high glycemic index.
- Having a large quantity of alcoholic beverages and smoking,
- Having a very stressful life
- A lack of physical activities
What is a high glycemic index?
Food items that release higher amounts of sugar in the blood are called high-glycemic index foods. Such as potatoes, rice, atta and maida-based foods, sweets, sweet drinks, most of the fruits, alcoholic beverages, etc., to name a few.
What are the types of foods that have a low glycemic index?
Foods that are rich in insoluble dietary fibres, such as vegetables that are grown above the ground, whole grain bread, raagi, oatmeal, millets, yogurt, eggs, meat, fish, etc., to name a few.
Treatment of diabetes
People who have been diagnosed with diabetes mellitus for the first time are advised to do the following before starting any medication or insulin: I call it WASH.
- W: Walking briskly for 30 minutes five times a week.
- A: reducing the intake of alcoholic beverages and foods and drinks that have a high glycemic index.
- S: Must reduce or, if possible, completely stop smoking.
- H: Trying to remain happy for most of the day by reducing mental and emotional stress.
- H: Take constitutional homeopathic treatment.
Only when these measures fail to yield results should one resort to oral diabetes drugs and insulin.
