Mother Nature has designed the sinuses as bony pockets in our skull to keep it light. They are named maxillary, frontal, ethmoidal, and sphenoidal.

When they get inflamed, it is known as sinusitis. It is classified into three subtypes depending on the duration since they have been affected.

• Acute Sinusitis : Where the trouble has been for less than 4 weeks,
• Sub-acute Sinusitis : Where the trouble has been between 4 and 12 weeks.
• Chronic Sinusitis : where the trouble has been going on for 12 weeks or more.

Cause of sinusitis

• There is no known cause for sinusitis. However, it is often present in people with a family history of either tuberculosis or allergic conditions such as asthma, allergic rhinitis, bronchitis, etc.
• It is also seen in people who themselves have had all the diseases mentioned above, like atopic dermatitis, and abdominal problems such as acidity, constipation, etc

Symptoms :

• Nose: Sneezing, discharge from the nose—either in front or it drops back in the throat, itching inside the nose or in the throat, and pain.
• Head: Most commonly, it causes pain over the forehead, above the eyeball, at the root of the nose, and less commonly, deep inside, behind the root of the nose.
• When sinuses discharge backwardly into the throat, it is called post-nasal discharge, and it causes a recurrent sore throat and a productive cough.
• When the condition is severe, it may cause fever and malaise.
• In cases where sinusitis has been going on for a very long time, the individual may lose their capacity to smell and taste
